What is authenticity anyways?
What is authenticity anyways?
I've been hearing this word so much lately, and maybe you have too.
"Show up authentically" "Live your most authentic life" "Be an authentic leader" "Bring your whole self to work" "That's not authentic to me"
We are "supposed" to be "authentic." - But what does that even mean?
And how can we be authentic when we need to go out of our way to earn that promotion or raise?
And how can we be authentic when we don't feel safe at our workplace to be our most authentic selves?
I'm all for being authentic, but there is so much nuance behind being authentic. It's not as easy as it sounds. Some days you can't just "show up authentically."
So let's break down what authenticity is, and what it's not.
Authenticity is not:
Faking it until you make it
Bringing your whole self to work
Oversharing or being unprofessional in the name of "authenticity"
Conforming to others' expectations
Being perfect
So what is authenticity? Authenticity is:
Living in alignment with your values
Listening to your intuition
Loving and accepting yourself fully
Expressing yourself honestly
Embracing vulnerability
And that's why authenticity is such a beautiful thing. You get to define it for YOU.
Based on your values, and your connection to your intuition, and accepting YOUR unique flaws and genuine power. That's true Self-Love. ✨
